It is widely recognized that sustained adherence to workplace codes of conduct such as that of the ICTI CARE Process require more than audits and corrective action plans. Training, education and capacity building are among the complementary efforts that will help multi-stakeholder initiatives, brands, retailers and suppliers reach sustained levels of workplace improvements.
It is for this reason that BSR has established its China Training Institute (CTI) with two main objectives:
1) to develop and deliver a diverse and in-depth set of trainings to factory management that will promote good labor practices in China-based export facilities; and 2)to create a sustainable training institute in mainland China that can effectively meet factories' need for technical training on good labor practices.
In the last two years, CTI has delivered 160 days of training to nearly 1,500 managers in Southern China who represent factories in the footwear, apparel and toy sectors, which altogether employ more than 1,000,000 employees. – See Appendix ICTI introduction
In recent two years, CTI has not only provided public courses offered primarily to companies in the retail, toy, footwear and apparel industries, but also provide long term courses targeting specific industries, e.g. apparel and electronics. This document articulates a strategic partnership between the ICTI CARE Foundation and CTI in the Toy sector to create a long-term capacity building training program for the benefit of all parties. view more »
