ICTI CARE Process Long-term Package Training

Background

It is widely recognized that sustained adherence to workplace codes of conduct such as that of the ICTI CARE Process require more than audits and corrective action plans. Training, education and capacity building are among the complementary efforts that will help multi-stakeholder initiatives, brands, retailers and suppliers reach sustained levels of workplace improvements.
It is for this reason that BSR has established its China Training Institute (CTI) with two main objectives:
1) to develop and deliver a diverse and in-depth set of trainings to factory management that will promote good labor practices in China-based export facilities; and 2)to create a sustainable training institute in mainland China that can effectively meet factories' need for technical training on good labor practices.
In the last two years, CTI has delivered 160 days of training to nearly 1,500 managers in Southern China who represent factories in the footwear, apparel and toy sectors, which altogether employ more than 1,000,000 employees. – See Appendix ICTI introduction

Project Description

In recent two years, CTI has not only provided public courses offered primarily to companies in the retail, toy, footwear and apparel industries, but also provide long term courses targeting specific industries, e.g. apparel and electronics. This document articulates a strategic partnership between the ICTI CARE Foundation and CTI in the Toy sector to create a long-term capacity building training program for the benefit of all parties. view more »

Training Schedule & Approach
  1. A total of five training sessions, each lasting one to two days, will be provided, totaling 9 training days.
  2. All the training sessions will take place in Mandarin and will be highly interactive and participatory.
  3. Four of the two-day training sessions – CSR Management System & Law Update (CSRM), Health & Safety Management (HSM), Productivity & Overtime (POT), and Effective Worker' Communication (EWC) and Grievance Procedures – will be delivered every two months. Between training sessions, participants will be required to do after-training assignments designed by trainers, which will help them to put into use what they learned in the classroom.
  4. Based on packaged training experience in the Apparel and Electronics industries, a more supplier oriented assignment is recommended in this training project. All after-training action plan, and CSR performance metrics will rely on suppliers' self-motivation, while BSR will act only as a guidance and helper. This not only engages more with suppliers' ownership, most importantly, it is the key element of project success.
  5. After all, the principle part is suppliers, and all learning, improving should come from themselves and in the end benefit themselves.
  6. ICTI CARE Foundation representatives may attend the opening and closing forum, to provide the participants with a communication channel on ICTI CARE Process key requirements and discuss successes and challenges related to the program.
